Exercise 6: Multimedia

Note: Remember to enter your login name in the Import Identifier field when performing an import.

When loading multimedia with the Import Tool it is necessary to use the virtual Multimedia field to specify the pathway to the multimedia file to be imported.

  1. Create a new CSV Import data file.

We'll be working with the following fields:

    Field

    Back-end name

    Title: (Resource Information)

    MulTitle

    Creator: (Resource Information)

    MulCreator_tab

    Multimedia

    Multimedia

As you can see, Creator: (Resource Information) is a table field, and we're adding two values to this field.

  2. Add the following details to your file:

    Column Name

    (Row 1)

    Record 1

    (Row 2)

    MulTitle

Train1 (where Train1 is your login name)

    MulCreator_tab(1)

    John Smith

    MulCreator_tab(2)

    Bill Wilson

    Multimedia

    C:\Images\Glenorchy.JPG

  3. Save the Import data file to your Desktop as exercise6_train1.csv, where Train1 is your login name.
  4. Perform a Typical import in the Multimedia module.

The thoroughness of the Import process (compared to a simple batch load) is highlighted when loading multimedia. When importing an image, for example, much data can be automatically generated by EMu: MIME type is automatically determined and if any additional resolutions have been defined in the Registry, these are automatically generated.

View the Resolutions tab of your newly imported Multimedia record to see what resolutions were automatically generated when you imported the image.
